Traditional Women’s Gatherings
Program Overview
Anishinaabe women hold a sacred responsibility for the protection of water, sharing teachings, conducting traditional ceremonies, and providing leadership for public advocacy to ensure that we collectively care for water in keeping with prophecies.
People We Serve
Traditional Women’s Gatherings are open to all community members, but promote women’s leadership and focus on women’s responsibilities as understood by Anishinaabe peoples.
Program Activities
Anishinaabe women hold a sacred responsibility for the protection of water, sharing teachings, conducting traditional ceremonies, and providing leadership for public advocacy to ensure that we collectively care for water in keeping with prophecies. Through the Niibi Center, many traditional women leaders collaborate to offer community visioning, storytelling, and learning sessions; identify and lead program and advocacy efforts; and build a base of ongoing programs designed to protect niibi.
Source of Funds
Traditional Women’s Gatherings are supported by funds from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development and Catholic Rural Life.
